Marius Steiger
Marius Steiger’s painting practice reinterprets the Vanitas tradition within today’s digital, capitalist image culture. His works depict a synthetic, suspended sense of time in which everyday objects become charged symbols shaped by desire, fantasy, and repetition. Using shaped canvases that combine realism, abstraction, and digital aesthetics, Steiger highlights the contrast between the slow process of painting and the fast circulation of images in contemporary visual culture. He holds a Master’s degree in Painting from the Royal College of Art in London and has received a scholarship from the Patronage Fund for Young Swiss Artists at Kunsthalle Basel. His work is included in major public collections such as the Julius Baer Art Collection (Zurich), CC Foundation (Shanghai), the City of Zurich and Canton of Bern art collections, and the Swiss National Library. Recent exhibitions include presentations at Jeffrey Deitch (Miami), Perrotin (Paris), Lisson Gallery (Shanghai), Clearing (Basel), Kunstraum Riehen (Basel), ZIAN (Hangzhou), and Blue Velvet (Zurich), all in 2025. An upcoming group exhibition will take place at Tara Downs, New York.
